Looking for a place to eat before a show at the Fox, had seen this place for years but was a little hesitant of the 'cafeteria style" could not have been more wrong. Food was excellent! Definately will do this before every Fox show from now on.

We were walking down the street after a show at Powell Hall looking for something to eat, a family came out the door and we asked if there was a line they said yeah they're usually is it's not your normal steakhouse it's more of a St Louis thing That's when we knew we had to try it. As you stand in line and look over the menu. The cook will yell next and you will tell them what chicken or steak you want and how you want it you will then order your sides when you get up to the sides like baked potatoes, fries or the famous tip potatoes which you leave a tip in the cup and he will cook you up some delicious tip potatoes. Everything we had was great with a great price. Not your fancy steakhouse but truly a St Louis thing I highly recommend and we will be going back Thank You "The Best Steakhouse"

Can’t believe this was my first time here! The line was long but moving. People calling out orders left and right. I was full from the chicken and green beans, I couldn’t eat anything else. I managed to taste the steak and potatoes which did not disappoint. I saved that for lunch the next day

First my GPS led me down an alley to get there, and it only got stranger after that! Had no idea this was a cafeteria-style steakhouse. Had never heard of such a thing. But I committed to finding out what it was about. Have your order ready from the moment you GET IN line, because the cook will ask what you want long, long before you get to the register and will be harsh with you if you don't know. The folks in front of me needed a moment and he skipped to me. I was a bit flustered when he shouted mockingly, "Is ANYBODY gonna order?!" I didn't want to give my order if the folks in front of me hadn't--so he then heckled me. And misgendered me. Hence the four stars. I get it now--they cook a new order every time they finish one and are often ahead of the cashiers, so the food is ready when you pay. Shouting "NEXT!" at people in line is part of their work, and the reason their shirts say "NEXT." But it's a little unnerving and more than necessarily unkind to harangue first-time customers. That said, the steak was very well-seasoned, if a bit tough. The shrimp were delicious, better without the slightly thin cocktail sauce. The baked potato was dry and crumbly--next time I'll get the grilled potatoes. The cake was delicious but an odd frosting for German chocolate. And the price was incredible. Clean restrooms. Kind of a dining EXPERIENCE, maybe a bit like Katz Deli. Don't go if you're overstimulated.

Simple and easy process. I like that you’re able to watch them cook your food and the customer service while not that personable they’re still friendly. The steak burger was juicy and fried okra was nice and fresh. The baked potato was nice and fluffy but they need to get better shrimp. There was too much breading and not enough shrimp. Reminds you of a better school cafeteria

Not your normal overpriced snobby Steak House! It’s more like a greasy spoon diner with great staff great vibe and great food! Put a couple dollars in the tip jar and you can change your potato to tiptatoes!

My grandson and I had lunch and the ribeye steaks were very good, cooked just as we ordered them. My issue is the price of the cheesecake bought for my grandson. It was $5.50 for a 1/2 inch wide and about 4 inches long. Since 1964, we have patronized them. Also, no one came to our table to ask how was our food or offer a refill of water or removed dishes.

This spot is a local gem where hearty portions and no-nonsense service come together to deliver an authentic meat lover’s experience.

The menu is a gateway to classic American steakhouse favorites with a twist—highlight dishes like the Ribeye Special, T-Bone Steak Dinner, and the Porterhouse with Baked Potato showcase expertly seasoned, juicy cuts cooked to order. The famed Tip Potatoes, a St. Louis staple here, deserve special mention; they’re crispy, buttery, and come with an extra touch of care—leave a tip, and the cook will whip them up fresh just for you.
